In the year 2019 ,12 domestic workers from Domestic Professionals Association of Kenya (DPAK) came together and started a welfare group whose mission was to pool their resources together for the purpose of loaning the members and investing. The group agreed to save a minimum of Kshs. 300, 200 was savings and 100 would go towards helping a member in the case of loss of a loved one.
This went on for 3 years and the group decided to add more members as they had seen the benefits savings gave them. 5 of them were so focused on building a financial institution that will impact on the lives of their fellow domestic workers and proposed that the group register a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society. The process of registration started in April 2022 and in May 2022 DPAK Sacco was officially registered under the Co-operative Societies Act (Cap490) Laws of Kenya. As at the first special General Meeting the Sacco had 30 new members.
